Thirsty? Head To The Free Tasting Australia Event Dedicated To Wines, Brews & Spirits Today

Love a good drop, enjoy a tasty brew? Then this Tasting Australia event is for you…

South Australian produce isn’t all about the amazing food, let’s not forget the beverage. And today South Australian beverages take centre stage at Tasting Australia’s Town Square with a full program of demonstrations and discussion devoted to Wines, Brews and Spirits.

Addressing a key theme of Tasting Australia presented by Thomas Foods, some of the state’s leading winemakers and commentators will discuss the status of Australia’s wine community and whether it presents itself well in terms of age, gender and diversity? Is it perhaps that we require a new culture instead of a new strategy?

The Australian’s wine columnist Max Allen will join Dr Irina Santiago-Brown (Inkwell Wines) and Clare Valley winemaker Kerrie Thompson (Wines by KT) in debate about how demonstrative, democratic and credible the current leaders of the wine community are.

Later in the day the local wine community will discuss South Australia’s brand and ambition, and whether “fine wine” is what the state’s winemakers should be striving for, or rather a wine that represents place. Panellists include Taras Ochota (Ochota Barrels), Max Allen, Tony Love (The Advertiser) and Tamrah Petruzzelli (Hot 100 Wines, The Adelaide Review).

“South Australia has a long-standing and impressive history in the field of wine, but one of our greatest achievements is our attitude to consistently challenge the norm,” Tasting Australia creative director Paul Henry said.

“Wine is such a personal thing. We want the public and industry to think about what the future of wine might look like for this State and celebrate the true flavours of South Australia in its many iterations.”

Carrying on the theme of wine, Waymouth Street will be invigorated by Tasting Australia’s BYO Night, an event that encourages the public to dust off a cellared bottle and bring it to dinner at one of the city’s leading gastronomic destinations. Press, Delicatessen, Bistro Dom and George’s On Waymouth are among restaurants that will waive the corkage fee for one night only and offer a set menu for diners to choose to complement their bottle of wine.

The public is encouraged to share their experience via social media, using hashtag #tastingausBYOnight, to discuss the wines we hold near and dear.
