Dessert. Universally loved and probably the most delicious thing ever. We here at the Glam Adelaide office will absolutely, positively, unequivocally never say no to desserts!

Not only are desserts amazingly, deliciously delightful (have we mentioned that enough yet…) BUT they are also super on trend. There we go, trendy and delicious, desserts really do have it all. This year we have seen some divine desserts trending and we checked in with a woman who is no stranger to the dessert, Kate Roberts from Food By Kate, to find out what the hottest desserts of 2015 really are…

Making a splash in a range of different sweet forms, are desserts blazoned with COLOUR. Whether it be a chewy macaron, an airy meringue or the coloured chocolate pyramids filled with crushed Oreo’s made famous by dessert phenomenon Nectar and Stone.

In France the chicest of desserts, the eclair, have never gone out of fashion… And now, thanks to French patisserie chef and eclair extraordinaire Christophe Adams, they have been turned into something even more delectable and modern. With each eclair looking like a work of art, Adams’ range even extends to eclair ice creams. Oh oui oui, we will have one of each.

Now guys, don’t stress, we have you covered! Well actually Jenny’s Gourmet Bakery have you covered. You don’t need to fly to Paris (although if you are, we will hide in your suitcase) to experience this whole eclair revamp to do. From a salted caramel popcorn eclair, a yuzu meringue eclair, to a salted caramel eclair with caramelised macadamia – it all just sounds so heavenly! Did we mention that Jenny’s have also created a townie, that’s a brownie in a tart shell and a cruffin, that’s a croissant crossed with a muffin. No more talking, just take our money!!

Making it big interstate is Nitro Ice Cream. What is that? Well it is basically science combined with food all Heston Blumenthal like. You pick your flavour and the ice cream is made in front of you using liquid nitrogen. So clever! Luckily for us, this trend has hit Adelaide in the form of Fancy Ices. You can get your Nitro Ice Cream hit in the form of multiple different flavours including sweet corn, double milo and rose. We will take one of each, thank you!

A lot of people are still on the ‘clean eating’ health kick and for those, there are the raw cakes! Now don’t be fooled. These cakes look EXACTLY and we mean exactly (see how we shouted it) like your regular cake! You cannot tell the difference! So these cakes are made using no refined sugars, animal products or artificial additives and, not to state the obvious, they are raw. They look delicious to us and if it means we can have our cake and eat it too, we are so in! Raw Karma are leading the trend here in Adelaide and have branched out into raw donuts, tarts and different balls including cookie dough balls.

Now it might be a favourite, but salted caramel has had its day. No longer is it the trendy flavour of choice (although we still wouldn’t say no)… Flavours such as popcorn, bacon and even fennel and liquorice have been where the flavours of 2015 have headed. Well the whole salty sweet of the salted caramel works, so we kind of get the sweet and savoury mix that is happening at the moment.

Cake, cake, cake… possibly one of the best things ever!! This year Katherine Sabbath and Unbirthday Bakery have set the cake trend in the last year or so with the chocolate drip. Oh yes! Cake and chocolate. Not only are the cakes made with a very stylish drip flowing down the sides, but they are also usually piled with different sweets, fresh flowers, berries and often an Oreo cookie or two (we will take two)! Bright colours, sprinkles, chocolate shards and lollipops, nothing is off limits and these cakes are masterpieces in our eyes! Want to get your hands on a delicious cake with a drip? Luckily we have Alyce in CookielandFood By Kate and Caked Out right here on our doorstep!
