Hosted at the Old Adelaide Gaol, the SA Designer’s Showcase presented by Renniks Hire was sartorial spectacle like no other.

The night began at twilight with guests milling about the courtyard, moving between the bar, Bottega Rotolo‘s cheese table and the photo booth. Fashion photographers and bloggers with impressive cameras weaved in and out of social circles, ducking in and around conversations, snapping the uber stylish and chatting with friends. When the show began, media and guests meandered from the courtyard to the runway, drink in hand and iPhone at the ready.

Five fashion experts, including fashion designer Wayne Cooper, South Australian Style magazine editor Jodi Nash, and social media expert Tania Debono, sat upon their modern thrones at the end of the catwalk, ready to judge the emerging designers: scott&scarce, Laura Jayne The Label, Millicent Elizabeth, Willow & Grace, Madeline The Label, SCK The Label, Simmone Standing and Elyse Barker.

After a casual intermission, the fashion festivities began again with established designers sending their designs down the runway for an impressive second parade, featuring casper&pearl, NaMoi designs, Chelsea Eve, Designer Duchess, Orbin, Georgia Guy, Necia, couture+love+madness, Greta Kate, Liza Emanuele, Malachi Empire and Jaimie Sortino.

After the second parade, the big announcement was made. Simmone Standing won out the title of Emerging Designer of the Year, with her clean, white, geometric designs winning hearts among the judging panel and crowd alike. Millicent Elizabeth took out second place, with her sleek, wearable designs.

The night ended with a huge wrap party in the courtyard, with drinks, nibbles and a surprise delivery of 500 boxes of Krispy Kremes (which was a huge hit among the crowd, I will add).

Two days away from it, the impression remains the same: South Australia has a group of truly talented designers in its midst. And it wast even just the designers that were impressive- the models looked like they’d just flown in from NYC, and the event itself was enchanting.
