2015 marks 175 years for The Mile End, and to celebrate the hotel has undergone a major redevelopment, with a reconstructed venue, refreshed vibe and tasty, new menu.

The Mile End, located just outside the Adelaide CBD on Henley Beach Road, has been extensively refurbished in part, restoring the hotel to its original details. Aided by original photos lining the hotel walls, the exterior of The Mile End has been completely stripped of its layers, revealing the original bluestone and red brick it was once famous for.

Architect, Mark Folland, explains how his intent was to create an old-meets-new look and feel. “The refurbishment has allowed the interior of the hotel to open up while retaining a series of different cosy spaces with open fireplaces. We have kept part of the original construction and adorned the walls with great artworks,” says Mr. Folland.

The interior of the hotel includes extensive artwork by artist extraordinaire, Sandra Anderson, possessing a quirky nature with eclectic art and furniture. “The Mile End has an amazing, local history attached to it, so we have kept true to its character by using and recreating some of the original features like the beautiful wood and glass detailed bar, as well as revealing some hidden aspects including a bricked-up window,” says Ms Anderson.

A new central open kitchen is now on show to the entire bar and dining areas, showcasing a passionate and creative team of chefs. A new menu has been created featuring inventive pub food, tapas and modern Australian cuisine; using some of the best local South Australian produce.

“We have diversified the menu to include vegetarian and vegan offerings,” says The Mile End Head Chef David White. “Expanding on the idea of traditional pub food, with modern Australian influences from native and local ingredients, I have included a broad range of share plates with a tapas feel to encourage conversation and great atmosphere amongst patrons.”

The delicious food at The Mile End will compliment the carefully crafted drinks menu with local South Australian wines from the Adelaide Hills and Eden Valley listed, as well as a broad range of craft beers available on tap.

The Mile End now also plays host to functions, events and live music weekly. For further information on the hotel, visit www.mileendhotel.com.au
