The Long Lost Friend We Have Been Looking For (And They Do A Delicious Brunch)

This is one long lost friend that you will want to get acquainted with…

Stumbling across this new gem at the end of Magill Road (that is the hills end) was like finding a long lost friend…

With its charming and welcoming interior and delicious food, there was no doubting that Long Lost Friend is the new it brunch place in Adelaide. I mean, that, and the million other people who were there that had obviously figured out this was the place to be!

It comes as absolutely no surprise that this place is growing super fast in popularity, with the owners being those behind the Corner Store Cafe at Dulwich (if you haven’t been here yet either, then what are you doing, just go)! The sister cafe to their new venture Long Lost Friend is already well known around Adelaide for having some of the best food, and along with a great vibe and cute venue, it has really made its mark on the Adelaide breakfast/brunch/lunch scene.

But I digress… we were hopeful that Long Lost Friend would offer the very same quality and deliciousness that we have come to expect and let us say that it did not disappoint. With an all day breakfast menu and lunch options available from midday, the essentially classic menu does have a few little twists thrown in to mix things up.

The chef likes to add something a little different to the menu every now and then. Whether it be a healthy take on an old favourite, or using the influence from another country… On the day that we visited there was one lonely Asian influenced option on the menu in the form of Bibimbap – we just had to try. We are so glad we did. Fresh, clean and tasty, just what the doctor ordered.

The freshest of fresh Bibimbap!

It goes without saying that we of course had to also stick with a classic and get the smashed avocado, which was up there with the best we have ever tried. And that is saying something!

Set in an old corner deli about a 5-10 minute walk from the UniSA Magill Campus, there really isn’t much else around on offer in the way of cool cafes. So Long Lost Friend are really meeting that need in this area and meeting it exceedingly well.

As I mentioned, this place is busy. Like, really busy. Maybe that is its one Achilles heel (and if that is their one weakness, they are doing something/everything right). We had to sit outside, which wasn’t terrible unless a noisy road train went past, then it was goodbye conversation. In saying that, as the weather starts to warm up sitting outside will be much more enjoyable, especially for those who like to enjoy their Sunday brunch after walking the dog!

Enjoying our meals was easy, as this place got the food so right! The coffee wasn’t bad either and as you know, we love our coffee. The staff were beyond friendly and more than happy to have a chat. It was easy to tell that they are enthusiastic and passionate about what they do, it showed in everything from the smile they gave us when we entered to the way they spoke about the food when we asked questions. Ten out of ten for service.

Hot tip: This place has something for everyone and if you get there early, you should be able to beat the crowds and get a seat, it is definitely worth the effort, or wait (if there is one).
