The Kensi X Mollydooker Wines Equals Food, Wine And A Good Time

When there is fab food and glorious wine, you know that you are in for a good time…

Sarah and Sparky from Mollydooker know their way around a good red wine, like Johnny Eime the Chef at The Kensi knows his way around a good meal. So it was obvious that the next step should be for Johnny to pair up with Mollydooker and give us the Kensi’s final Wine Lunch of 2015.

Not being the kind of people to miss the opportunity to drink large amounts wine whilst enjoying glorious food, we obviously thought it best to head down to The Kensi to check out what gastronomic magic they could whirl up for their last food/wine pairing of the year.

On arrival we were greeted by our newest best friend Girl On The Go, Mollydooker’s sparkling Verelho paired beautifully with ocean trout crudo, citrus, sorrel, horseradish and herb oil. The citrus juice serves to ‘cook’ the trout, creating a juicy and mouthwatering flavour combination to win over any crowd (including us).

Taking our seats, we found the wines had already started flowing (just the way we like it), with the Scooter Merlot waiting for us. With an aromatic lift of fresh plum, spice and chocolate, The Scooter paired perfectly with the starter Johnny had prepared.

Obviously, we’re not going to go to a lunch and not let people in on how the food was, and this lunch was spectacular. The entrée featured duck rillettes accompanied with a cauliflower pannacotta, house smoked bacon, heirloom beetroots, and white anchovy; an amazing combination of flavours that paired perfectly with the afore mentioned Scooter Merlot.

Not content to leave us wanting more, the meal continued in a haze of red wine, amazing local foods, and great company. Mains had people almost begging for seconds, of both food and wine.

Showcasing not one, but two of Mollydooker’s star reds (let’s be honest though, they’re all pretty spectacular) the lamb mains were presented with both the Two Left Feet, a Shiraz/Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon, and the Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz.

The lamb itself was presented in two magnificent ways, with each plate presenting a piece of pressed shoulder and a pan roasted cutlet (perfectly cooked) complemented by a fennel, oat and potato crumb, and peas. Locally sourced, the lamb came from Thornby Meats in Tanunda, the perfect complement to the local reds presented along with it.

It was hours into the meal that we then came to dessert, having chatted our way through 4 glasses of amazing Mollydooker wines paired beautifully with the incredible food. And with our standards set high, dessert did not disappoint. It was a soft mix of dark chocolate, cherries, basil, and coffee perfectly matched the Enchanted Path Shiraz/Cabernet. Just heavenly. The Kensi X Mollydooker 3

Sadly this was the final wine pairing at The Kensi for 2015, but never fear, they will be back in 2016 with more wonderful pairings with other amazing wines. Of course, for the remainder of 2015 we’ll all just have to sit down and pair our Mollydooker wines with more Mollydooker wine.

You can check out Mollydooker’s story and order your own collection of their wines from the Mollydooker website.
