The Incredible Lists That Adelaide & South Australia Have Topped – Including The World’s No. 1 Rising Star Destination

In the last 12 months alone, we’ve rocked some pretty impressive lists internationally – so with Trip.com naming Adelaide as the “World’s No. 1 Rising Star Destination” – we thought a recap would carry us in to 2017 nicely.

Here are Glam Adelaide, we are massive fans of South Australia and our fair city of Adelaide. No surprises there. I mean, we’ve spent the last 13 years promoting the best of our State to make sure everybody here, interstate and overseas appreciates just how awesome this place is. Now the world is catching on. In the last 12 months alone, we’ve rocked some pretty impressive lists internationally – so with Trip.com naming Adelaide as the “World’s No. 1 Rising Star Destination” – we thought a recap would carry us in to 2017 nicely.

Here we go.

  1. Trip.com’s World’s No. 1 Rising Star Destination – What does it take to become a Rising Star? Trip.com users love up-and-coming culinary scenes, sultry nightlife, uncrowded beaches, creative (with a dash of hipster) festivals, and historic architecture given freshly-polished life. Spanning five continents, Adelaide topped the spots attracting their gaze this year.
  2. Lonely Planet’s rating of South Australia in its Top 10 Regions To Visit – Best in Travel 2017 is Lonely Planet’s 12th annual agenda-setting collection of the world’s hottest trends, destinations and experiences for the year ahead. The best-selling, inspirational travel yearbook highlights the top 10 countries, cities, regions and best value destinations that Lonely Planet’s experts recommend travellers experience in 2017. South Australia is ranked fifth on the book’s list of Top 10 Regions 2017.
  3. Traveller’s inclusion of Adelaide in their Top Cities To Visit For Perfect Weather All Year Round – Temperatures in Adelaide (while certainly hitting some highs) are in weather’s Goldilocks zone – keeping as close to the optimum 20 degrees celsius as possible, rainfall is relatively low and the dryness keeps humidity from getting to Sydney or Brisbane levels. The likelihood of fog and lightning strikes was also taken into consideration for the judging.
  4. Huffington Post’s list of The World’s Most Beautiful Libraries It is pretty safe to say (and really obvious) that we have always considered the Mortlock Chamber of the State Library of South Australia as one of the masterpieces of SA architecture. The Huffington Post agrees and included it in their list of the World’s Most Beautiful Libraries. The photos alone are breathtaking… just wait till you actually see it in person.
  5. Adelaide ranked World’s Fifth Most Liveable City – the Economist Intelligence Unit’s liveability index for 2016, tied Adelaide with Calgary for 5th place. It’s the 5th time we’ve come 5th! The index ranks locations around the world based on the best or the worst living conditions. The index, measured out of 100, considers 30 factors related to safety, health care, educational resources, infrastructure and the environment to calculate scores for 140 cities.
  6. The University of Adelaide made the top 100 most international list – The University of Adelaide has been listed among the top 100 of the world’s most international universities according to the prestigious Times Higher Education.

Feeling that State pride yet? We are.
