The Hungry Hippo, Adelaide’s first board game café, set to launch

THH_GlamHave you ever woken up on a Friday and thought, ‘oh boy, it’s the end of the week. I can’t wait to go on an all night coffee bender and play board games with my friends’?

We did, and for that reason we’re proud to announce the debut weekend of The Hungry Hippo late night board game café. The Hippo is gearing up to devour its first plate of customers on Friday, August 30, and Saturday August 31.

The Hungry Hippo has hundreds of board games on deck. The crew here personally seek out the best games from around the world and play test them all before putting them on the shelf for you to play.

You’ll find the Board Game Menu on every table at the Hippo – filled with guidelines to help track down the best fit for your game time, whether you’ve got half an hour to enjoy the utterly European, nouveau-Jenga, Hamsterrolle, or six hours to spend conquering the galaxy in Twilight Imperium. Don’t worry, we’ve got the classics too – like the source of all of history’s greatest family feuds: grandma’s dusty old copy of Monopoly.

On top of the treats, sweets and neat games on the table, we’ve got beats as well – as our little love letter to the Adelaide music scene, we’re only playing tunes from local bands in the café.

In the comings weeks, The Hungry Hippo will settle in to its regular hours of Thursday 7pm-11pm, and Friday and Saturday 7pm-late. For those are keen but don’t know where to start, we’ll be kicking off ‘come and learn nights’ as well as a whole host of other special events in the coming weeks.
