On Monday night, Andre Eikmeier from Vinomofo responded to a Facebook post from McLaren Vale local vigneron Jock Harvey saying he had 3 tonnes of beautiful Shiraz vines near Willunga that his team wasn’t going to be able to pick. He offered them to anyone who was willing to make a donation to Hutt St Centre, a charity who work tirelessly to transform the lives of Adelaide’s homeless.
Andre was struck with the idea to rally together and make a Shiraz out of the wine, with all proceeds being donated to Hutt St Centre and just a few short days later, this is becoming a reality. Through call outs on social media, Andre and the team at Hutt St Centre locked in Yangarra winery to help make the wine, with the idea that everyone can sponsor a case with all proceeds going to Hutt St Centre. In 9-12 months, anyone who bought a case will it delivered to their door.
Peter Fraser, Shelly Torresan and Charlie Seppelt have come on board to make the wine at Yangarra, which is pretty amazing, and more legends of McLaren Vale are coming forwards to help make this happen.
Together, they’re going to make a wine that really means something here, that can really change the lives of some people who need it.
The bottles were selling for $15 each, which was good value for some delicious McLaren Vale goodness. A lot of love is going to go into the making of the wine, not to mention how good everyone will feel about being involved, as all the money will be going to Hutt St Centre. Online, Vinomofo have already raised $36,000 overnight, selling all 200 cases of wine.
From the proceeds raised, Hutt St Centre can now supply 15,000 meals, basic human services for 150 people or jobs for 30 people who without a job are forced to sleep rough, in a car or temporary accommodation.
The next step is picking to grapes so if you’re wanting to help out for a great cause, head on down to the Vale, grab your secateurs and a bucket, and let’s have some fun.
