The 15th Australian Masters Games will have a strong charity focus as the 10,000 strong Games community looks to support a number of notable health related organisations.

For the first time in Games history there will be three charities supported, via strategic partnerships with national organisations beyondblue and the McGrath Foundation, as well as the Asthma Foundation SA.

Organising committee advisory board chair Chris Dittmar said that it was important for the Games to support the community through these charitable partnerships.

“By aligning ourselves with these three charities, the Australian Masters Games has the opportunity to raise both awareness and funds for these important causes,” Dittmar said.

“Unfortunately there are people experiencing hardship via health issues on a daily basis, but fortunately there are organisations such as these able to provide outstanding support and tangible assistance. We are proud to be associated with them,” Dittmar affirmed.

Dittmar highlighted the opportunity to support the charitable organisations via the Games entry process, sport participation and the social program of the week-long multisport festival.

“Participants can donate to the charity of their choice when they register for the Games, and there will be additional opportunities to donate throughout the event week, including via themed functions,” he said.

Each of the charities is focused on a different health issue including depression and anxiety, asthma and breast cancer.

Below is a short summary of each of the core functions of the three partner organisations:

Asthma Foundation SA
Asthma Foundation SA’s sole purpose is to support the 1 in 10 Australians living with asthma. Up to 90% of people with asthma will experience exercise induced asthma. However, exercise is the one asthma trigger not to be avoided.
