Acclaimed Australian classical pianist Simon Tedeschi and popular Australian Jazz pianist Kevin Hunt have something special planned for Adelaide audiences; a genre bending combination of jazz favourites and classical repertoire arranged for two pianos.

With improvisations and arrangements of works by Bach, Ellington, Debussy, Shostakovich and Gershwin, the duo are bringing their creations, which have delighted audiences across Australia, to Adelaide’s Elder Hall.

Kevin Hunt is one of Australia’s most respected jazz pianists and has played with Don Burrows, James Morrison, Marie Wilson and other jazz greats.  Well known for his jazz arrangements of classical repertoire by Ravel, Debussy and Bach, Hunt also writes his own jazz compositions and teaches at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Simon Tedeschi shot to the top as a classical concert pianist, performing his first Mozart piano concerto at the Sydney Opera House at the age of nine. He has since performed around the world, including Carnegie Hall, and is regarded as one of Australia’s finest pianists.  Tedeschi has performed for world leaders such as the Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark, George W. Bush, Vladimir Putin, Nelson Mandela, and the Dalai Lama.

Alongside his immersion in classical repertoire, Tedeschi has an enduring love of jazz, particularly the work of George Gershwin, producing two CDs, Gershwin and Me and Gershwin: Take Two.

In his final tour of Australia, US harmonica legend, Larry Adler, remarked “I just wish Gershwin were here… [Simon is] the finest exponent of his music I have ever seen”.  It was on the same tour that Tedeschi and Hunt first met and began their unique musical collaboration, releasing two CDs along the way: Woodlands (2010) and Duelling Schimmels (2009).

Kevin Hunt says “we explore the terrains of each other’s musical styles, by listening and playing together, which often produces quite unexpected yet fulfilling inspired music.”
