Calling all artists and graphic designers from around Australia and across the world, the coveted Adelaide Fringe Poster Competition is on again and the Fringe is daring artists to be more outrageous with their designs than ever before.

The theme for the 2016 Adelaide Fringe and the Poster Competition is ‘Walk on the Wild Side’.

Adelaide Fringe Artistic Director & CEO Heather Croall said the panel of judges would be looking for ambitious designs that were outside the square and showed exceptional creative flair.

“Be brave, think pink, hit the streets then add a splash of luminosity. Bring all of this together in one snappy design and your image could be plastered around the city of Adelaide for an entire month,” Ms Croall said.

“The poster really sets the tone for the overall feel of the Fringe and we’re looking for something that reflects the mind-blowing month of fun and electric atmosphere that the Fringe delivers each year.”

Adelaide Fringe is one of the greatest open access arts festivals in the world and has run for more than 50 years. The winning design will go into the history books alongside other iconic Fringe posters that have become great collectable posters of their time.

The winner will receive $2000 and free artist’s registration if they would like to stage and event or art exhibition in next year’s Fringe. It will be incorporated into the branding and marketing material for the 2016 Adelaide Fringe.

Ms Croall said the poster competition had proved to be a career spring-board for previous winning artists and designers since its inception. The design can be in any medium or art form such as digital, illustration, painting, sculpture, photography or street art but the final entry must be two-dimensional.

Both Australian and international designers and artists are invited to submit a design and entry is free.

The competition is open and entries must be submitted by September 4 at 5pm. A panel of experts will judge the entries and the winner will be notified by September 21.

The winning entry will be revealed to the public later this year. For more information and to enter, visit adelaidefringe.com.au.

The 2016 Adelaide Fringe will run from 12 February until 14 March.
