Buy SA. Support SA. SA owned and operated. They’re all phrases thrown around so readily at the moment. Phrases that fill us with a sense of pride and state patriotism, but how many people are putting their money where their mouths are and acting on these powerful phrases?

In light of information that prominent Adelaide fashion designer Liza Emanuele’s retail business has an outstanding matter with the ATO which is now threatening its future; Glam Adelaide is taking a serious look at what it means to buy local and support businesses who support our state.

Liza Emanuele is a name to behold in SA fashion. Her talent, skill and expertise have seen her travel the world developing and creating fashion with the utmost care and attention to detail. But with the world at her feet Liza chose to return here to our humble state, set up her showroom in Hyde Park and show the rest of the globe the skill and beauty that South Australia brings to the table.

©simoncecere-4This in itself has made Liza a true trailblazer for young designers in SA. Besides her mentors, George Gross and Harry Watt, she was the first to show young designers that you CAN have your dreams come true right here in Adelaide. Yes, at times it means you have to work harder, but that makes it all the more worthwhile when you reach your goals.

In an excessively difficult retail market Liza, like many other businesses, has chosen not to cut corners and outsource to overseas markets, where undoubtedly manufacturing would be a fraction of the cost. Instead she pours her passion into Adelaide, creating jobs and opportunities where otherwise there might not be. This has been in turn reciprocated by her loving team fiercely rallying behind her at this difficult time.

Glam Adelaide has always supported Liza as a South Australian fashion icon and a friend, as we know she shares our passion for everything South Australian. Not only does this reflect in her continuous work with SA businesses and charities, but is also clear in her determination to put truth into the ‘Designed in SA. Made in SA’ mantra.

CAPTURE ONE1404It is for this reason that we are jumping on board with the hashtag #ISupportLiza. Get on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/whatever your social platform of preference is, and show that you stand behind Liza and her team who have worked so hard to achieve great things for South Australia. Post shots of your Liza wardrobe pieces (old or new) or even if you’re lucky enough, pictures with the lady herself. Let’s show Liza that just as she has stood by the community when times were hard, we stand by her. Her boutique is also operating, business as usual, so head in there and pick up a new season piece, or shop from her fantastic Winter sale that’s on at the moment.

In regards to Liza’s ATO issue, normal legal proceedings are underway and it’s important to note that no money is outstanding to staff, suppliers or customers. Liza has contacted all her customers letting them know that Bridal and custom orders are all on track, with the service and professionalism that has been timelessly provided by Liza and her team.

This issue goes so far beyond just one woman. Many businesses in South Australia face these struggles every day. It may be cheaper or perhaps more convenient to buy mass produced overseas items (and we’re talking about everything here, even your every day groceries) but the ramifications of this continuous behaviour is quite clearly having a negative effect on our state.

Let’s all make a conscious effort to drive just that little bit further to the local fruit and veg store, to pay that little bit extra for our meat from the SA butchers, to wash it all down with a great glass of SA wine and to do it all wearing a designer piece from the Liza Emanuele collection. Get on board South Australia. #ISupportLiza #LoveLocalBuySA
