Strip Down To Your Undies With Kane Cornes And Rory Sloane

Kane Cornes and Rory Sloane join thousands to tackle bowel cancer for the 2017 People’s Choice Undies Run.

Adelaide football legends Kane Cornes and Rory Sloane are set to help raise funds and awareness for the nation’s second-biggest cancer killer by stripping down to their undies.

On 15 January 2017, 2017 People’s Choice Undies Run for Bowel Cancer will again partner with Cancer Council SA to present the country’s cheekiest fun run: the People’s Choice Undies Run for Bowel Cancer at the 2017 People’s Choice Classic circuit as part of the Santos Tour Down Under.

The event ambassadors – one a veteran Port Adelaide Football Club player, two-time All Australian and four-time Best and Fairest winner, and the other the 2016 All Australian Vice Captain and Adelaide Football Club two-time Best and Fairest winner – have happily signed up for this fun event with a serious message.

“While thankfully neither of our lives have been affected by bowel cancer so far, we really wanted to get behind the Undies Run to help reduce the stigma around bowel cancer screening and encourage more people to take the test,” Kane said.

“It’s horrifying to know that 23 South Australians are diagnosed with bowel cancer each week, but it’s also really encouraging to learn that around 90% of bowel cancers can be treated effectively if found early enough,” he said.

“We’re doing the Undies Run to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Council SA in the fight against bowel cancer, and to reduce the awkwardness associated with this disease,” Rory said.

“We’re challenging South Aussies to join us – no matter your code or club – to strip down, and help show that running around Adelaide in your underwear has got to be way more embarrassing than a simple test that could save your life,” he said.

“I think some people imagine taking the Faecal Occult Blood Test to be embarrassing, but the reality is that it’s easy and there is nothing awkward about detecting bowel cancer early. It’s not worth dying for,” Rory said.

Slightly shy, Rory’s a little apprehensive about dropping his dacks for the Undies Run, but self-professed ‘nudist,’ Kane is not particularly perturbed about running around in his undies in front of 100,000 spectators gathered for the People’s Choice Classic cycling event which kicks off the Santos Tour Down Under.

“I’m pretty relaxed about it. My neighbours have been known to catch me out in my briefs from time to time, which is probably worse for my wife Lucy than it is for me,” Kane said.

Both boys have been busy in the footy off-season. Rory married his long time partner Belinda in Byron Bay and the two have been honeymooning in New York and Mexico, while Kane recently ran the New York Marathon, followed by a long-awaited family getaway in Hawaii.

With 100,000 spectators, a ready-made 2.3km racing arena and more than 1,700 runners decked out in matching underwear, the Undies Run is surely the most fun anyone can have in their undies.

Each year, hundreds of South Australians strip off before the People’s Choice Classic opening race of the Santos Tour Down Under cycling event in Adelaide running, jogging and strolling in their smalls to raise big bucks to help beat Australia’s second most-commonly diagnosed cancer.

Since its inception, the Undies Run has raised more than $600,000 for Cancer Council SA and has funded ground-breaking research and vital support services, while raising awareness of life-saving early detection bowel screening kits.
