State Theatre Company of SA’s The Misanthrope

The State Theatre Company of SA will perform Martin Crimp’s verion of The Misanthrope at Her Majesty’s Theatre from February 18 to March 13.

The play revolves around Alceste, a character angered by the vanity of the modern world.  His defiance to reject the world is challenged when he falls in love with an American film star and socialite.

Martin’s take on Molière’s 17th-century comedy is set in the modern London media scene and with clever wit explores the pretensions of society today.

“This is not just an updating of Molière’s great social tragicomedy but a thrillingly sophisticated modern version of a classical play… The writing is ferociously funny.” The Sunday Times
