A special event commemorating the centenary of the landing on the Gallipoli Peninsula will be held at St Peters this Saturday 18 April from 2.00pm – 4.00pm.
Hosted by the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, the Anzac Tribute will be staged in St Peters Street, adjacent to the St Peters Town Hall, and feature performances by the Royal Australian Navy Band, presentations, readings and children’s activities.
This free event will include the ‘Goodbye to All That . . . ‘ exhibition in the St Peters Town Hall.
Featuring a number of historic artefacts from the First World War, this exhibition will take visitors on a journey from the home-front to the battlegrounds of Gallipoli and Europe.
A free BBQ, sweets and coffee will also be provided for all attendees.
Mayor Robert Bria said the recently developed St Peters precinct would provide the perfect backdrop to this special Anzac Tribute Event.
“Last year the Council completed the St Peters Avenue of Honour project, including the development and installation of a new piece of public art – Fallow – commemorating the 100 year anniversary of the Anzac assault on Gallipoli,” Mayor Bria said.
“This new civic space is ideal for hosting community events such as our Anzac Tribute, which will provide the community with an opportunity to learn more about Australia’s military history, and reflect on the sacrifices made by Australia’s servicemen and women.”
In addition to this special Anzac Tribute event, the following Anzac Day Services will be held on 25 April in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters:
• Norwood RSL Dawn Service – 6.15am, Soldier’s Memorial, Corner Osmond Terrace & The Parade
• Payneham RSL Dawn Service – 6.15am, The Cross of Sacrifice Memorial, Corner of OG Road & Payneham Road.
• St Morris RSL Memorial Service – 6.30am on the corner of Green Street and First Avenue
