Spy The Hidden Gems Of The Gilles Street Grand Bazaar

The street will close, there will be over 150 stallholders and Christmas is coming up… need we say more?

This might be just a gut feeling, but the number of Christmas markets seems to have absolutely sky-rocketed this year; but there is still one, and only one Gilles Street Grand Bazaar.

And what a bazaar we are in for on Sunday, 4 December. The street will close with over 150 stalls filled with goodness, accompanied by live local music and delicious local eats. Now, one of the pleasures of a market is stumbling across a treasure that catches your eye. That said, there are some gems you might pass up if you don’t know what you’re looking for. The sort of traders who are being hunted nationally for their wares.

Get in the know:
ELM PAPER – STATIONERY
Elm Paper
If you need inspiration, look no further. Founded in 2011 by Ella Munro after spending over 10 years working as an art director for luxury fashion and lifestyle magazines, her range was established because of her love for stationery, design and nostalgia of the hand written note. At the heart is a celebration of family, friends and the act of giving; the likes of which has caught the eye of Vogue, Real Living, Inside Out, House and Garden, Instyle and Marie Claire.

LITTLE TERRARIUMS – INTERIOR DESIGNLittle TerrariumsWhen local Fern Buranasak looks at succulents, she sees table centrepieces, bomboniere, arrangements for wedding, so much more than simply the cute little flowers in singular pots. She will make you rethink what a terrarium can be and you will be clambering to find a place in your home.

ALCOME.CO – NATURAL BODY PRODUCTS
Alcome Co
Everyone knows that natural bod care is not just a phase now and this Carrickalinga based cosmetics are leading the way in innovative products that are not only good for the planet, but they give 5% of profits to Animal Welfare. It’s pronounced Alchemy Co by the way.

SMITH BEARD CO. – MEN’S GROOMING
Smith Beard Co
The beard never went away, as the hipster evolved into a mainstream hybrid who loves his facial hair as much as his fixie and his craft beer. Founded earlier this year, the crew at Smith are all about handcrafted, unique and fine mens lifestyle products. We’re talking balms, oils, waxes and accessories. And they’re damn dapper.

ARTISTIC LIFESTYLE – INTERIOR DESIGN
Artistic Lifestyle
Local artist Samantha Cox was inspired to create Artistic Lifestyle to satisfy her passion and love for art and how art is exhibited in people’s homes. Her range draws from tribal and spiritual influences, featuring striking textures and patterns, mandala, and a beautiful cathartic decor that draws you in.

ORTC MAN – MENS ACCESSORIES
OTRC Man
Men’s accessories and fashion sometimes get lost amongst the plethora of female options at Gilles Street, but for the fashionable male there are a few local designers championing the cause. OTRC was founded by two mates hoping to do just that; deliver a unique fashion label that can be enjoyed by men of all ages.

ELO BABY DESIGNS – CHILDREN’S FASHIONElo Baby DesignsThe littlies aren’t left out this Grand Bazaar. Handmade with true love and fashion in mind in SA, Elo Baby is a bit of fun, creating pieces to cherish. Generic cheap cotton garbage this is not, and their accessories can stay with your bub across years of growth and tantrums!

CINQUANTE THE LABEL – JEWELLERYCinquante The LabelAs featured on the runway as part of Adelaide Fashion Festival, this range of handcrafted contemporary jewellery designed and finished in Adelaide is about evocative pieces of silver, brass and rose-brass, complimented by silk tread. Necklaces, bracelets, anklets, earrings and rings. Oh my!

HARVEY THE LABEL – WOMEN’S FASHION
Harvey The Label
If we’re talking emerging names of Australian Fashion, then there are few labels growing as big a buzz as Harvey The Label. This Adelaide based crew transformed the recent Norwood Parade Fashion Markets into a sales frenzy and as far as summer pieces go, it will be hard to walk away from without grabbing something – even if you don’t think you ‘need’ anything…

COPPER AND CO – HOMEWARES
CopperCo
Every product is made by local artist Ashlea Cooney herself. A marriage for her love of natural wood textures and splashes of colour, these are some seriously stunning coasters, serving boards and dip trays. The wood is always sustainably sourced, but mostly, when it comes to Christmas gifts, this is about the most versatile idea we have seen. Even people who are impossible to buy for would find a space in their home for Copper&Co.

Now, we mentioned there are over 150 Stalls coming to the Gilles Street Grand Bazaar on Sunday, 4 December… What more exactly are you waiting for us to say? We know you’re going already.
