OzHarvest have announced details of how it will be spreading goodness at Tasting Australia this week, including a limited-seat opportunity to cook alongside Real Food Hero James Henry.

As one of five Supporting Partners of what is arguably Australia’s most influential and best attended culinary festival, OzHarvest will be present throughout Tasting Australia, including installing a Garden of Goodness in the Town Square, helping bring many of the Town Square ‘Eat and Share’ sessions to life and hosting the limited-ticket cooking opportunity with leading light James Henry.  OzHarvest also will be rescuing food at various locations and events.

Founder and CEO of OzHarvest, Ronni Kahn, said that the rationale for getting involved was simple.

“Tasting Australia is a signature event on the national culinary calendar, which this year is paying homage to both where food and wine come from, as well as preserving their future.  As Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, OzHarvest is dedicated to spreading the word about food sustainability and food waste. This event, including our evening cooking with James Henry, is a very natural fit for us to be part of.”

Simon Bryant, Chef and Creative Director, Tasting Australia believes the collaboration between OzHarvest and Chef James Henry is the coming together of two real food heroes.

“As an expat Aussie Parisian Chef immersed in a culture that utilises all the weird and wonderful bits and pieces that should never end up in the bin, but often do (skin, wings, fins, insides, tips and roots) AND an organisation that makes sure a few more Australians don’t go hungry every day, by being a “goal keeper” between restaurant left-overs and the bin. It’s a perfect collaboration of two real food heroes who both celebrate the true value of food in different ways.”

Limited-ticket opportunity to cook alongside Paris Chef & Restaurateur James Henry

Australian-born, Paris-based chef James Henry is partnering exclusively with OzHarvest for a cooking class with social impact. In a limited-ticket session, guests will have the opportunity to cook alongside James in a guided cooking class, and also discuss informally with James and OzHarvest issues such as food seasonality, sustainability and waste.  Food created on the night will go charity agencies and people in need in the community.  Tickets can be purchased through the Tasting Australia website.

Help grow the Garden of Goodness

Plant a contribution on the Garden of Goodness, the OzHarvest installation in The Town Square for the duration of the festival.  Created in partnership with The Productive Garden Co, the Garden of Goodness helps to educate about the impact of food waste and raise awareness about how OzHarvest is helping to combat food sustainability issues.  All proceeds go to OzHarvest food rescue in South Australia.

Look out for Yellow

OzHarvest volunteers will be wearing OzHarvest yellow while supporting ‘Eat’ and ‘Share’ sessions in the Town Square throughout the festival, as well as flying the yellow flag at the Origins Dinner.  We also will be collecting surplus food from different venues throughout the event, with our yellow food rescue vehicles expecting another busy schedule ahead.
