Leading Australian athletes are calling on ‘good sports’ across the nation to add a splash of hot pink to their local club games this season.
Cath Cox, Hazem El Masri, Luke Lewis, Ellyse Perry, Wendell Sailor, Billy Slater and David Williams are among the stars who will pull on hot pink socks to celebrate women and support the McGrath Foundation.
The 2013 Pull On Your Socks campaign will be launched during the Harvey Norman Women In League round, from May 17–20 2013, and every Australian can join in by purchasing a pair of McGrath Foundation Pink Socks or registering to organise a Pull On Your Socks fundraising event to show their support for Australian families experiencing breast cancer.
There are 8 McGrath Breast Care Nurses located in South Australian, in Angaston, Barmera, Mt Barker, Port Augusta, Port Lincoln, Victor Harbour, Wallaroo and Whyalla. Their positions rely on initiatives like these so that the foundation can continue supporting McGrath Breast Care Nurses Australia wide.
SA already has one one local Football club registered to raise money as part of Pull On Your Socks. The Mount Compass Football Club club located in Woodcroft SA is excited to be a part of the initiative .
The 2013 Pull On Your Socks campaign will run from May 17 to July 30 – registrations are now open and the McGrath Foundation Pink Socks are on sale at mcgrathfoundation.com.au to ensure teams around the country are ‘in the pink’ when the campaign kicks off.
A host of National Rugby League stars will be adding a splash of hot pink to their game during the Harvey Norman Women in League Round and Wendell Sailor, a Foundation Friend and former dual rugby international, is encouraging sports clubs across the nation to follow their lead.
“This year’s Harvey Norman Women in League round falls one week after Mother’s Day and, along with the Pull On Your Socks campaign, it’s a great opportunity to continue the celebration and pay tribute to the ‘unsung heroines’ of the games we play – the mums, wives, girlfriends, sisters and aunts who either support or play sport at all levels and in all communities across the nation,” Wendell says. “So, don’t sit on the bench this season – join the celebration by buying your McGrath Foundation Pink Socks or, better still, encouraging your local sporting club to organise a pink-themed fundraising event.”
While the key activity for Pull On Your Socks will happen during the Harvey Norman Women In League round, all sporting clubs are invited to host a Pull On Your Socks fundraising event before July 31 when prizes will be awarded to clubs that contribute to the fundraising drive.
Community clubs that raise more than $1,000 will have a chance to win an appearance from an NRL One Community Ambassador, while clubs that raise just $1 or more will go into a draw to win Steeden Pink McGrath Foundation Replica Footballs, a signed 2012 Australian Kangaroos Jersey, a signed 2012 NSW State of Origin Players’ Jersey, a signed 2012 Melbourne Storm Jersey, or one of two Sony digital cameras.
“It doesn’t matter if your game is rugby league, rugby union, soccer, Aussie Rules, hockey, netball, basketball or baseball – everyone who supports Pull On Your Socks this season will help the McGrath Foundation kick its goal of ensuring every Australian family experiencing breast cancer has access to a breast care nurse,” Wendell says.
McGrath Foundation Pink Socks retail at $12 per pair or $10 per pair for bulk orders of 20 pairs or more.
