splashSplash Adelaide’s fifth summer season is just around the corner with applications open from Friday 3 July until close of business Friday 21 August.

Lord Mayor Martin Haese said Splash Adelaide is aimed at supporting people to navigate their way through the process of turning ideas for community spaces into viable projects, and in the process give organisers the confidence to continue their projects independently into the future.

“Splash Adelaide started out in 2011 with 20 projects that were completely led and initiated by the Council,” said Martin.

“Since then it has entirely transformed with all projects 100% led by the community and the last summer season running 170 projects, that’s over eight times more than its first season.

“We have built confidence within the community to come to us with creative ideas and seek the support of Splash Adelaide to make them a reality,” he said.

Applications could be anything that contributes to making city streets and public spaces more lively and that will draw the community to these places.

“Every year we see new and innovative ways to utilise spaces around the CBD and North Adelaide, such as visual art displays, street performances, markets and food and wine events,” he said.

Artists Alice and Lucy Bonnin who have worked with Splash Adelaide on multiple projects such as Trades Hall Lane Ball and Mural said Splash Adelaide were key in helping to create their idea and make it happen in reality.

“There are so many things we didn’t think about when we had the idea for a space, but having a dedicated project manager meant that they could assist us with things like building approvals and licensing and other pieces of red-tape that we didn’t know about before,” said Alice.

Sarah Boyd from Honk! Pop Up and Play, a temporary pop up adventure playground in the Park Lands said she had a concept but had no idea how it would work in practice.

“Splash Adelaide were fantastic in terms of providing mentoring, guidance and tools around what we needed to do and how we would be able to make it all happen,” said Sarah.

“Through Splash Adelaide we were able to reach out to children and families and get them interested in our event using Splash’s marketing and social media channels and that really helped us create a profile that we probably couldn’t have built on our own,” she said.

Grace Coy and Monica Prichard who run the Adelaide Art Walks say due to their success of the Art Walk on Melbourne Street, they decided to seek out other creative hubs around the City and North Adelaide.

“Splash Adelaide has really supported our vision for a unique art experience and Monica and I encourage anyone with creative ideas for the city to look out for the next round of Splash applications,” said Grace.

Applications close on Friday 21 August and people can submit their application for Splash Adelaide summer season to www.splashadelaide.com.au

People can keep up to date with events by following Splash Adelaide on Facebook and Instagram and by downloading the app by searching for “Splash Adelaide” in the app store.

Splash Adelaide is a program by Adelaide City Council which supports community members and local businesses to turn their visions for spaces around the CBD and North Adelaide into a reality.
