The Adelaide Fringe could be South Australia’s latest export to China if a potential deal goes through which will see elements of the festival taken to China.

The Adelaide Fringe Festival could be making an appearance at ‘Asia’s Oktoberfest’ next year as part of the 30 year celebration of the sister-state agreement between South Australia and Shandong Province.

The International Beer Festival attracts almost 4 million people each year and planning has begun to take elements of the Fringe to the Chinese city of Qingdao.

This fantastic opportunity provides the perfect platform to show of the best of South Australia and its iconic Fringe Festival to the people of the Qingdao and Shandong Province.

The Royal Croquet Club looks like it is set to join the line up in China, although the process is still in its early stages.

The potential deal was put forward to China by Adelaide City Council councillor, David Slama on a recent State Government trade mission to China.

Why not export one of our state’s most successful events and give China an experience of the Fringe Festival that we know and love. In doing this it could also build Adelaide’s international brand, advertise our wonderful state and what we have to offer, and potentially increase the number of Chinese visitors, plus the number of potential Chinese artists participating in the Adelaide event.

With the Adelaide Fringe delivering a staggering $68.8 million of associated expenditure to the South Australian economy this year, those numbers can only hope to rise with the introduction of this idea of ‘exporting the Fringe’.
