South Australian Designers Hit South East Asia For Fashion Showcase

Ahead of the Adelaide Fashion Festival this October, three Adelaide Fashion Festival designers will showcase their work this week overseas, representing SA.

Just when you thought the Adelaide Fashion Festival didn’t start for a few months yet, there’s been a flurry of activity happening in our great State’s fashion industry, to ensure we hit the ground running in October.

Three Adelaide Fashion Festival designers will showcase their work in Jakarta today before touring manufacturing and textile facilities in Indonesia and Vietnam.

Designs from South Australian brands Acler, Paige Rowe and SIG The Label will feature on the runway at the gala event for top Indonesian investors, fashion buyers and influential business identities.

Adelaide Fashion Festival creative director Chris Kontos said the designers – Julia Ritorto (Acler), Kate Anderson (SIG The Label) and Paige Rowe – would then travel to Vietnam, developing connections with the two key international markets.

“South East Asia is a hub of textile production and manufacturing favoured by many of Australia’s top designers,” Chris said.

“The international exposure and networking this trade mission will provide is invaluable at this early stage of brand development.”

The gala event will be held in Jakarta on May 30, with a second runway show in Bandung – Indonesia’s third-largest city by population – on June 1.

Additional pieces from fellow Adelaide Fashion Festival (AFF) brands Naomi Murrell, Casper+Pearl, Pari and Tiff Manuell will also be incorporated in the parades.

Chris said the Adelaide Fashion Festival was pleased to work with the South Australian Government to curate an impressive runway show for Indonesian business leaders and develop an informative itinerary for the Adelaide designers.

“These designers are among Adelaide’s new frontier of fashion and are motivated, inspired businesswomen who are building their labels independently,” he said.

“The group will meet with representatives from Ho Chi Minh City Association for Women Executives and Entrepreneurs and the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association, which is a unique chance to share experiences and ideas.”

Founder of SIG The Label Kate Anderson said it would be her first time in Jakarta despite manufacturing her collection in Indonesia.

“I’m really excited to visit Jakarta – it has a thriving economy and exciting prospects,” she said.

“Exploring the retail side (of Indonesia and Vietnam) will be really beneficial to my business and its growth in the long run.”

Acler, Paige Rowe and SIG The Label were all part of 2015 AFF through A Night of Fashion at the Art Gallery of South Australia and the Ready To Wear Runway at Published Arthouse.

They will be incorporated in the festival program again in 2016.

Adelaide Fashion Festival will be held from October 19-23 this year.
