Solar Powered Salad Truck Around Town

Salad TruckAdelaide City Council and designer James Worth from GreenStar Design have been working together to bring the solar powered salad truck to help enliven the streets of Adelaide, and from Tuesday 12 March, for around a week, the truck will be in Whitmore Square.

Part of the exciting Splash Adelaide program, this truck, designed with sustainability in mind, is the result of months of careful planning, collaboration and building and measures the size of a small car.

People can visit the truck, a large wooden toy truck replica complete with edible vertical gardens, watered through a solar powered watering system, pick salad, herbs and vegetables from the gardens. Children can climb the truck and enjoy learning about unique gardening techniques while playing in the outdoors.

Performer Peter Schultz will entertain the children with his Precious Possum Kids Show on Sunday 17th March at 10.30 am at Whitmore Square.

On Monday 18th March the solar powered salad truck will be moving to Wellington Square for one week, and on Saturday 23rd March between 10 am and 12 noon there will be free Veggie Growing Demonstrations by the Diggers Club for everyone.

The solar powered salad truck is part of Splash Adelaide and you can check out the Splash Adelaide App to get notifications about other Splash events throughout the season.

The Splash Adelaide App allows users to sort and search for events by tags, for example, family events, markets, food, outdoor cinemas and be notified of events near them.

“The notifications function means that when you’re walking through the city, if there’s a Splash event happening nearby you’ll know about it. You’ll never miss a Splash event again!” said Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood.

Available free for iPhone and Android devices, the app lists Splash events and provides all the details simply by clicking on the item of interest. The app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play Store by searching for “Splash Adelaide”.

Splash Adelaide is a joint campaign by the Adelaide City Council and State Government that aims to bring our city streets and laneways to life over summer.
