Slo Cooking Has Never Tasted So Good

With Tasting Australia just around the corner, and foodies on standby, celebrated chef Nigel Rich has today opened his new venture Slo Moe’s Smokery – the first outlet of its kind.

Set in the Food Court at Rundle Place, this is stage one of a dynamic brand roll out over the coming months, that includes a food service, at home (self catering) and events division as well a restaurant in the McLaren Vale.

It’s impossible to capture in words the full experience of real BBQ and Slo Moe’s is set to delight, providing mouth watering, authentic, Southern-style BBQ in SA.

Expect genuine, delicious meats cooked low and slo’ for between 10-14 hours using traditional unchanged methods that have been used over generations.

Meat will be smoked using wood from select sources like old hickory whiskey barrels shipped in from the states. The Pits are maintained at the exact heat the entire time, signature skills of the Slo Moe’s Pitmasters.

Nigel Rich said the beauty about Slo Moe’s is the simplicity of the products, resulting in a tasty unforgettable menu.

“There is nothing like slow cooked meats. As such we don’t have a fancy menu to hide behind. In fact, we really only cook five items – beef, lamb, pork, chicken and fish, with a selection of sides, but what we do cook, we do exceptionally well. This is a classic case of quality over quantity,” he said.

All meats have been sourced locally and will be prepared in the Slo Moe’s McLaren Vale smokery under Nigel Rich’s watchful eye and in conjunction with Co-Founder Darren Lange who has been instrumental in bringing slow cooked American BBQ to Australia.

Darren, who has more than 20 year’s experience and knowledge in traditional wood-fired smokers, fell in love with this style of cooking whilst travelling through the US. So much so, he set up an importing business, to import the very best pits to Australia and has provided the custom 1 ó tonne offset smokers to deliver the tasty result found at Slo Moe’s Smokery, Rundle Place.

Nigel Rich said that he was so confident of the product that to mark the launch, the general public were invited to lunch for free.

“We wanted to open the doors on day one and invite everyone to have a taste, because I know they’ll be back for more,” he said.

The Sloe Moe’s Smokery is in the Rundle Place Food Court in the basement just off Rundle Mall.
