Legendary British actor, comedian, historian and television host Sir Tony Robinson will visit Hahndorf next week – April 7-12 – to film an episode of his latest series for FOXTEL’S HISTORY Channel, ‘Tony Robinson’s Tour of Duty’.

The filming will include a special Tour of Duty Community Event on Saturday, April 12 from 12.30pm at Hahndorf Academy, with Tony greeting guests at the start of the day.

Residents are also invited to bring along their cherished war memorabilia for our expert historians to examine. If they have a war relic they would like to find out more about or one that has a great story behind it, our experts can assess the item and they might even get the chance to appear on the show.

Tony Robinson’s Tour of Duty is a 10-part series airing on HISTORY in early 2015 to commemorate the 100 years of service for those who fought in war, from WWI to the present day. It is a fascinating look in to the lives, on and off the battlefield, of Australian and New Zealand war heroes.

Throughout the series, Sir Tony will travel across towns in Australia and New Zealand to tell the stories of the people who went to war and the people who stayed at home – a mixture of heroes and ordinary people.

Sir Tony will meet relatives and friends of those who have fought in battle and will encourage local residents to come forward with memories of their family’s role in the many campaigns across a century of service to their countries.

In South Australia, locals can watch Sir Tony film in front of the Hahndorf Academy on April 12 and possibly make it on camera themselves, enjoy a Rotary sausage sizzle, participate in various ‘old-time’ kids’ activities and witness all the action of a working television production as it unfolds.

Sir Tony will also visit Launceston, Ballarat, New Zealand (Dunedin, Auckland) Bathurst, Newcastle, Toowoomba, Darwin and Fremantle.

Sir Tony Robinson is best known for his role as ‘Baldrick’ on the cult British comedy series Blackadder, as well as hosting roles on the long-running Channel 4 archaeology series Time Team and two seasons of the hit Foxtel series Tony Robinson’s Time Walks. He was awarded a Knighthood in November 2013 for public and political services. Tony Robinson’s Tour of Duty is produced by WTFN Entertainment and is exclusive to Foxtel’s History channel.
