“Curves of the breast large and small, I love them all,” is the philosophy of local artist Taetia McEwen who last night launched her SALA exhibition, The Embroidered Boudoir in conjunction with Simone Perele’s Spring/Summer collection at Burnside Plaza Lingerie.
And curves large and small there were! A multitude of ladies and a handful of bold gentlemen viewed Taetia’s intricately embroidered water colour artworks depicting bra-clad women, presented alongside the lingerie that inspired them. The theme brought a Spring feel to the brisk winter’s night with fresh blooms, a myriad of pink hues and the heating perfectly cranked up.
Art and fashion combine seamlessly to make the perfect marriage for this exhibition; there’s embroidery to look at and embroidery to wear, facilitated by qualified fitters on hand to take care of every need. You can even enjoy perusing artworks in the dressing rooms!
Simone Perele’s stunning new collection was inspired by garden themes and colours, including butterflies, leaves and flowers, which was mirrored in the artwork. There are conventional styles, but also racer-back bras and feminine French panties, embroidered with intricate lace in a rainbow of colours, including two-tone navy, vivid purple and coral pink as well as basic black with a hint of silver. Simone Perele has an approach to femininity that ensures women experience superior comfort to support curves, making them feel beautiful and confident. There truly is something for everyone. The company supports many community causes and so jumped at the chance to work with a local artist.
“I let the lingerie do the talking and invented the ladies’ shapes around them”, said Taetia, who also used photographs of her daughters’ faces as inspiration for her artwork. “Women are an inherent beauty to embroider. Their form lends itself to silk and thread.”
Taetia’s next project is to embroider an elephant… a female elephant, she says. As we wait for her to embark on that mammoth project, her exhibition will be available to view until the end of the month.
The Embroidered Boudoir is hosted by Burnside Plaza Lingerie, Shop 2/435 Portrush Road, Glenside. Opening hours are: Mon-Wed & Fri 9am-5.30pm, Thursday from 9am-9pm, Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 11am-5pm.
