Hundreds of people kicked back at the Frome St SLSC over the 4 days of the Shorts Film Festival and experienced the exciting new venue. Movie goers kicked off their shoes, enjoying the sand between their toes as they sipped on delicious wines from Alpha Box & Dice and feasted on amazing beach eats from the guys at Golden Gullet. DJ Dexter and a selection of local DJs entertained the crowd with summer sounds. When the sun came down, everyone settled down in their sand seats to watch some of Australia’s best short films.
Shorts Film Festival received almost 200 entries this year. The judges had the difficult task of watching each and every one of them and then choosing the finalists, which is no easy feat given the high standard of the entries.
The top 30 films were screened across the festival with a mixture of dramas, comedies, documentaries and even a musical.
In the end, there could only be one Gold Shorts winner: the delightful Manny Gets Censored, which was written, directed and produced by Graeme Robertson.

Best Emerging Screenwriter: Brawl – Nadia Townsend and Natasha Ferguson
Merit: The Gallant Captain – Katrina Mathers, Graeme Base, Merrin Jensen, Daryl Munton and Patrick Sarell
Best Asia Pacific Film: Carry On – Yatao Li
