As Australians, there are a few things in the world that we just seem to enjoy: sport, sunshine, athletics, and competition. Well, this weekend Glenelg Surf Life Saving Club has it all with the Australian Surf Rowers League SA’s upcoming Twilight Surf Boat Carnival has it all.

Held at Glenelg, the Carnival will see a total of twenty-eight crews from all over the state competing across six different categories. And as most of them will be there competing for state team selection, you can bet that it’s going to be a tight competition.

The crews have a 4pm deadline for checking in so the races themselves will be kicking off at 4:30pm and going on until 7:30pm. As usual, SLSC events are family-friendly, but for the grownups in the crowd, the Boatshed Bar will be open both during and after the races, so wander over to the ground floor of the SLSC building for $5 beer and wine all evening.

The races will be held on the south side of the jetty, so set up on the jetty or the rock wall beside it if you want something like an aerial view of the competition. Or, if you’d rather be a bit closer to the action, you’ll be able to watch from the beach itself.

So grab your hats, sunglasses, and international visitors and head down to Glenelg beach this Saturday afternoon for a fantastic day out – plus the right to go to work on Monday and casually tell all your colleagues that you spent your Saturday at an athletics competition, instead of on your sofa, re-enacting the lip-syncing scene from Bridget Jones’s Diary.
