Screen My Shorts: Project HomelessScreen My Shorts are calling out to filmmakers who wish to participate in a global film challenge to raise awareness about the Homeless. Entrants have just three weeks remaining to sign up for this opportunity and be in the running to win a share in $10,000 worth of prizes.

Run in partnership with Parramatta City Council, Screen My Shorts: Project Homeless is open to filmmakers, animators, machinimatographers and documentary makers from across the planet, who are invited to produce a 3 – 10 minute short film on the one theme: the Homeless.

Screen My Shorts Australia Festival Director, Tom Papas, said Project Homeless is expected to draw thousands of entrants from more than 100 cities including New York, Beijing and Paris.

“Filmmakers from all over Australia are invited to compete in Project Homeless, which provides an opportunity for aspiring filmmakers to get their work recognised on a global scale.”

All filmmaking teams will be allocated one of 20 topics to explore in relation to the Homeless, such as current refugee situations, LGBT intolerance, homeless by choice, gambling and economic pressures.

The official filmmaking period begins at 7pm Friday 11 April, 2014 local time in each participating city. This is when teams are allocated a subject and line of dialogue, which relate to the central theme in their short film. Filmmakers must finish uploading their film by midnight, Sunday 11 May, 2014.

The completed films will be judged by an expert panel and the finalists will screen at the Screen My Shorts Awards ceremony, taking place at Riverside Theatres, Parramatta on Friday 11 July, 2014.

From the registration fees collected, Screen My Shorts will donate 25% to a worthy cause that is relevant to the theme.

Project Homeless was purposely designed as a global event for filmmakers to participate, contribute and raise awareness whilst giving them opportunities to develop their craft. Their creative works then become a community resource for education, entertainment and inspiration.

The theme of the Screen My Shorts challenge changes every year, and is based on six tenets of sustainability: environment, economics, community, governance, spirituality and culture. Previous themes have included Water in the Landscape and Sustainable Transport.

Entries for the 2014 competition are open until 11 April 2014.
