Santos Tour Down Under Announces Stage Finishes In Uraidla And Stirling

The Adelaide Hills region will again play a key part in the Santos Tour down Under with this morning’s announcement of a Stage 2 finish in Stirling and for the first time, Bupa Stage 4 in the town of Uraidla.

The Adelaide Hills region will again play a key part in the Santos Tour down Under with this morning’s announcement of a Stage 2 finish in Stirling and for the first time, Bupa Stage 4 in the town of Uraidla.

Mike Turtur, Race Director, Santos Tour Down Under said having a stage finish of the TDU, especially the BUPA Community Challenge, is fantastic for the town of Uraidla.

“We expect the Uraidla finish to be a huge day out on Bupa Stage 4, not only for the professionals but for the thousands we expect to ride in the Bupa Challenge Tour and arriving into the town earlier in the day,” said Mr Turtur.

Seasoned TDU host town Stirling is a crowd favourite and well suited to a premier stage finish.

‘Stirling always puts on a show. In 2009 overall TDU winner Allan Davis, won Stage 2 into Stirling that year and that stage win help set him up for overall victory so it will be interesting to see how the riders tackle this stage,” said Mr Turtur.

“We’re thrilled to have two TDU finishes in the hills for the 20 year milestone of the race,” said Adelaide Hills Mayor Bill Spragg.

“It’s a great opportunity for our community and businesses to showcase everything the Adelaide Hills region has to offer to a truly global audience.”

Chris Badenoch, President Uraidla District Soldiers Memorial Park and Committee Member of Imagine Uraidla, says the Uraidla community is tremendously excited by the announcement.

“This achievement recognises the great work and investment by businesses and community groups in the area over recent years to revitalise Uraidla as one of the Adelaide Hills absolute gems.”

“The community will be working hard over the coming months to make the Bupa Stage 4 finish down the sweeping main street of Uraidla one to remember,” Mr Badenoch said.

The 2018 Santos Tour Down Under will be held from Saturday 13 January until Sunday 21 with the Stage 2 finish in Stirling on Wednesday 17 January at 3.15pm and Bupa Stage 4 on Friday 19 January at 3.00pm.
