Santa Will Hit The Seaside When The Glenelg Pageant Rolls Down Jetty Road

The Glenelg Pageant will shut it down! Literally. Jetty Road will turn into a feast for the senses with all of the Christmassy fun…

Grab your kids, a rug, and some drinks, hats and sunblock (plus the essential sidewalk chalk) and snare your square behind the blue line to see a colourful parade of clowns, marching bands, dancers and festive local groups dancing, marching, walking, rolling, driving, skipping and somersaulting their way down Jetty Road to welcome Santa to the Bay at the Glenelg Christmas Pageant on Sunday 22 November!

The Pageant will travel along Jetty Road (from Rose Street) and into Colley Terrace. City of Holdfast Bay Mayor Stephen Patterson says there’s free pre-pageant entertainment from 9.30am, with the main event kicking off at 10.30am, followed by more family-friendly fun in Moseley Square.

“Pageant day is a very busy day at the Bay, with more than 2,000 participants and an anticipated gathering of around 30,000 spectators and, so we have some road closures around Jetty Road and Moseley Square to keep people safe,” Mayor Patterson said.

“It will pay to get in nice and early to secure your spot behind the blue honour line on Jetty Road. Don’t miss the great pre-pageant entertainment from 9.30am, including free giveaways for the kids – and head to Moseley Square afterwards for some terrific family-friendly activities including free face painting, balloon twisting, live music, displays and entertainment, plus the chance to take your own photos of your children with Santa, free!”

The anticipated 30,000-strong crowd will enjoy nine marching bands; ten school and kindy floats; numerous vintage cars and impressive emergency services vehicles; dancers from the Adelaide Rock and Roll Club, Dancers by Donna, SASamba and local calisthenics and gymnastics clubs; tonnes of traders and community groups; plus a host of zany clowns, unicyclists and stilt-walkers.

Three Nova 919 MCs will introduce the participants from key positions along the pageant route. In Holdfast Bay tradition, the Mayor will make his way down Jetty Road in a horse-drawn carriage, accompanied by this year’s Pageant Prince, Campbell Gibson (5) and Princess, Isabella Romeo (8). And don’t forget your camera because, after the pageant, Santa will be ho-ho-happy to have his photo taken with your children in Moseley Square (for free)
