Rundle Place launched their Spring Summer S16/17 season with a huge fashion parade which really was a statement of intent for how the location are positioning themselves as a premiere fashion destination in the city.

Entering into life size flowers, what appeared to be a jungle on our table, and summer tunes that made us actually feel like Spring was in full bloom for the first time this year (funnily enough, the torrential rain we’ve been having hasn’t quite achieved that yet). Before the fashion begun our bellies were filled with a delicious meal by the amazing Pho Ling Yeow who never fails to deliver. With light, Asian style dishes that had zesty fruit twists, the scene was set and we were transported to the days of warmer weather. Now for the fashion.

On the runway we saw collections from some of Rundle Place’s best labels; Ted Baker, Kookai, Oxford, Blue Illusion, Harris Scarfe, Serafina Boutique, Esprit, Sussan, Portmans, Trenery, David Lawrence, Peter Jackson and Country Road. The key trends we spotted for the women were patterns, block heels, off the shoulder tops, statement gold accessories, and anything nautical inspired. The most prominent colours on the runway were the classic whites and beiges, navy and anything in earthy tones. For the men, get ready to rock the blazer and shorts look in linen fabrics and light blue hues.

We were then privileged enough to hear from the oh so stylish Fashion Editor of Marie Claire, Bree McDonald. She was kind enough to share her 4 key trends to watch for the warmer months, so lean in close and listen up ladies.

  1. Polka Dots! They are back and are being worn with more polka dots. Yes, you heard right. Clashing prints and bright colours is what it will all be about this summer.
  2. The New Nautical. Bree defined this look as somewhere between Paris and the Love Boat, being casual yet neat and chic with button details and stripes (queue visions of the latest Gigi Hadid x Tommy Hilfiger Collection). And where does the “New” come from you may ask; this season will see the nautical look stray from its traditional colours to more yellows, rusts and other earthy tones.
  3. Frills, but with a twist. Think denim frills or pairing with oversized boyfriend shirts for that feminine look with an edge.
  4. Night-time for Daytime. So yes, the slip dress look continues! This was a huge look throughout winter, either layered over t-shirts or under blazers but with the warmer weather, shed those layers and bare those shoulders. As Bree put it, it’s like a polite negligee.
