Road Service Now Available For Adelaide Cyclists

Get back on your bike with road side assistance now available for cyclists…

Each year RAA is called on to fix more than 23,000 flat tyres on cars, and now they’ll repair your bicycle tyres as well.

RAA Senior Manager Mobility and Automotive Policy Mark Borlace said given the increasing popularity of cycling, it only makes sense to expand our roadside assistance to cover bicycles.

“We can help with all of the basics, whether it’s a punctured tyre, or a mechanical repair like a broken chain or a loose pedal that needs tightening,” said Mr Borlace.

“If we’re unable to repair the bike at the roadside, we will arrange for a taxi to get the member and their bike somewhere safe or to a place of repair. And if your children are out riding with you, of course we’ll look after them as well.”

The service is available to all Road Service members in Adelaide and regional SA.

“For decades, we’ve helped our members regardless of which car they’re out driving in, and last year we expanded our service to assist members who use mobility scooters too,” said Mr Borlace.

“This move has been embraced by our members, after receiving almost 400 call outs in the past year, with 150 of those for tyres that needed to be repaired or replaced.

“In the same way it has given peace of mind to mobility scooter users, we hope this new service will allow people to enjoy riding their bike knowing that if they were to get a flat tyre or a broken chain that our Patrols will be there to help them out.”

After getting not one, but two flat tyres while out riding his bike one day, cyclist Tom Williamson says it’ll be great to have someone to call on.

“At first it was all fine because I had a spare tube for my tyre with me so I could replace it – but then I realised the other tyre was flat as well,” said Mr Williamson.

“In the end, I had to call my partner and wait for him to come and get me, and I had to organise to get another bike tube before I could ride again.

“I use my bike every day to get to work, so it was a real hassle.”
