Review: Oisima Fires Up Rockets In Adelaide

e7b3267c-fe6a-4977-a7d4-a18cb9f9f7daThe cold was forgotten as I stepped foot into The Rocket Bar to catch Oisima on a blustery winters night. The mellow beats drifted down the stairwell as I entered a smokey haze, the tropical interior welcoming me with open arms.

Slowly the young crowd filed through the doors, and started filling the room. A few brave souls (armed with warm coats of liquor) bided their time, waiting for the night to hit full swing on Rockets rooftop, (more suited to Sundays in summer) whilst How Green kicked proceedings off with some chilled out tunes.

Perth songstress Mei Saraswati charmed the audience with a beautiful soul filled voice, intertwined with hip hop beats, slowly turning up the energy levels in the room.
Her shy demeanour deceived what was to come with her set as the pace picked up, treating us with an hour of jungle beats, soul, and an incredibly powerful prescence. The crowd is captivated, the dance floor filling, and Mei carries us away with trippy tunes like Ricochet and Communication (do yourself a favour and add her to your playlist).

Far from my mind is winter as the temperature heats up. By the time Oisima takes to the stage (fashionably late) the young crowd is getting loose, partying like only twenty-somethings can handle.  The charismatic Adeladian jokes with his hometown crowd, who are quite clearly thrilled to be in his presense on what is the final stop on his Nicaragua Nights tour.

Oisima’s deep, sweet sounds fill the venue, and Indian styled grooves get the dance floor collectively swaying.
The supportive local crowd erupts as Oisima performs favourite, Sun of Truth with Mei Saraswati. The song certainly hits the right spot, while the rest of Oisima’s tunes blend seamlessly into a cacophony of soulful, complicated, jungle beats.

It helped that I had some liquor keeping me warm, but as the night progressed with Oisima, jackets came flying off and the room was filled with summer vibes aplenty. If you want to stay warm this winter, buy some inflatable palm trees, a bottle of rum, grab some loved ones and crank up Oisima. A master of good times for sure.
