What do you get when you cross Madonna, Beyonce, and Lady Gaga? Kylie Minogue!

She’s the pop princess that Australian’s just can’t seem to get enough of, and on Tuesday night Adelaide was given a massive kiss from Kylie in a magnificent show that proves that she’s still on top of her game.

Never one to shy away from a little ‘theatre’ in her performance, her show was staged much akin to ‘Chicago’ the musical, with gorgeous dancers and sculptured physiques in abundance, along with some breathtakingly slick dance moves and an array of eye catching costumes. In a 20 odd song repertoire, Australia’s own Diva Extraordinaire wowed the crowd with a mixture of newer and older songs accompanied by well-choreographed routines to add to the atmosphere. Her warm up acts were synthpop artist Betty Who, and the legendary Giorgio Moroder, who produced many disco anthems from the likes of Donna Summer and of course Kylie herself. Both provided a delicious disco tasting platter in preparation for the main event and set the mood ever so well.

Miss Minogue ascended the stage on a giant pair of illuminated lips, the symbol of her ‘Kiss Me Once’ tour of course, and launched into a set of some newer tracks right through to her earlier stuff. Her engagement and interaction with her adoring fans was genuine and she seems not to have lost that ‘girl next door’ persona that we all love. Of course all the hits were there- Step Back In Time, Spinning Around, On A Night Like This, each delivered effortlessly and with support from her amazing back up dancers. The lighting was pure disco, and if only most of the audience wasn’t seated there would have been an amazing dance movement happening!

The show transitioned through several ‘themes’, such as the ‘Cell Block Tango’ in the beginning, to the 50’s housewife/Barbie girl medley which included I Should Be So Lucky, and finally the monochromatic latter section where she took some time to make the night of several fans who had stood out throughout the evening by inviting them on stage to join her for ‘ a selfie’.

Spoiler: One of the more special moments of the show was her tribute to INXS and in particular former frontman Michael Hutchence, where she sang Need You Tonight dressed in a leather miniskirt and a Police cap. It was a nice touch that only Kylie could have pulled off so well.

She capped of a stellar night with Locomotion and All The Lovers, but wasn’t getting off the hook that easy. After the obligatory extended applause, she came back for an encore and sang Into The Blue. And just like that, she was gone.!

Ever the showgirl, our pop princess has remained a down to earth Aussie girl and has the innate ability to connect with her audience on such a personal level. I happened to meet her many years ago and if I didn’t know she was a superstar, she could have been just another lovely, friendly girl I’d met at a party and chatted to briefly. She doesn’t seem to have changed a bit!

And that’s why we love her all the more!

Kylie Minogue’s Kiss me Once Tour 2015 will continue to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, so get in quickly!
