GroceriesCHOICE have released a report on the cost of living which has revealed that retailers are helping Aussie households with cost of living pressures.

Australian National Retailers Association (ANRA) CEO Margy Osmond says that “over the past four years the major supermarkets have invested millions of dollars to keep prices low and assist Australian households counter rising cost of living pressures.

“Helping Australian families manage cost of living pressures is the number one priority for our major supermarkets.

“It is estimated that in 2012-13 grocery prices across the major supermarkets fell by more than two per cent.

“During the twelve months to June this year, ABS data shows that overall food and non-alcoholic beverages prices rose 2.5 per cent, well below the annual rate of inflation, while overall clothing and footwear prices fell 0.6 per cent.

“This recent ABS inflation data further demonstrates that retailers are continuing to play a major role in keeping food prices low for Australian families.

“Competition is an important driver of lower prices for Australian households,” Mrs Osmond said.
