Redbacks Must “Find A Little Bit More” Against The Warriors

CricketSpeaking at team recovery this morning, West End Redbacks coach Darren Berry has called on his players to dig deep in their next match against the Alcohol. Think Again Western Warriors after opening their Matador One-Day Cup campaign with two narrow losses.

“The disappointing bit was in both games, we were right in them, but near enough is not good enough. It’s not one person, it’s a collective group. We just need to find a little bit more,” said Berry.

“We still posted a competitive 299; you should win games with that. The Gabba was a hard, flat traditional batting wicket last night, so we knew it was only par and unfortunately we were unable to defend that.”

Berry was pleased by the strong performances of young batsmen Travis Head (52) and Alex Ross (65) in yesterday’s match, but admits it was not enough to match the experience of the Victorian Bushrangers’ senior players.

“Our young kids were good again. I thought Travis Head and Alex Ross were good, but the difference in the two sides was we had a couple of batsmen who made 60s and Victoria had a class player in Cameron White who went on to make 100 not out to win the game for his side.”

The West End Redbacks have had a gruelling opening schedule, with three matches in five days, and will next take on the Alcohol. Think Again Western Warriors tomorrow, Wednesday 8 October at the Gabba.

“It’s a quick turn around and we don’t have time to recover. We play WA tomorrow, so the selectors will meet at lunch time today and we will make a decision as to the direction we want to go in tomorrow’s game.”
