Redbacks Earn First Innings Points

After a fantastic display with the ball, the West End Redbacks have captured first inning points against the XXXX Gold Queensland Bulls at Allan Border Field today.

Redback bowler Rob Cassell claimed his first five wicket haul in his first-class career, with the speedster taking 6/53 in 16.1 devastating overs.

Previously with best figures of 4/33, Cassell ripped through the top order with Redback bowlers Gary Putland and Dan Christian collecting two wickets apiece.

Even with Cassell’s career best figures, the day belonged to Graham Manou, who now holds the record for most dismissals by a South Australian wicketkeeper.

Manou’s catch of Queensland’s Ben Dunk propelled him past his predecessor Tim Nielson with the 31-year-old claiming his 311th dismissal.

Needing three more dismissals before the match to overtake Nielsen (310 dismissals – 278 catches, 32 stumpings, 99 matches), Manou’s brought up the milestone after Dunk edged a ball off the bowling of Dan Christian.

Heading into their second innings with a 27-run lead, the Redbacks finished 4/32 at stumps to hold an overall lead of 59 runs.

Redbacks wicketkeeper Graham Manou said it was good to see Cassell finally rewarded for his efforts this season.

“Our bowlers bowled extremely well today and it makes your job easier behind the stumps,” Manou said.

“Rob has had no luck this season and to take six wickets is a great reward for him.”
