Red October Arrives At Gilbert Place With Hidden Basement Bar

A new restaurant and bar in Gilbert Place is opening early November.

From the masterminds behind Bibliotheca Bar and Book Exchange comes Adelaide’s newest multi-level bar, Red October – yet another puzzle piece in the epic Gilbert Place revamp.

Owners, Roman Tazhdynov and Marina Tazhdynova are bringing a piece of their Russian heritage to Adelaide, with modern Russian cuisine as the main focus. And from what we know so far, you enter through the giant wooden door on Gilbert place into a multi-room bar and restaurant where there will be ample shared-style and booth seating. One wall in particular will act as a secret entrance point to A LARGE BASEMENT BAR. After speaking with Marina, we’ve found out you’ll basically have to turn a whole bunch of different knobs on a random wall in the venue until you hear the door unlatch and voila! A set of stairs leads your into the large basement which has it’s own bar and menu. It’s like a two-for-one.

Although the menu at Red October is said to be heavily influenced by Russian cuisine, the dishes will feature as much South Australian produce as possible. There will be local, interstate and Russian beer on offer as well as a healthy selection of bourbon. Stereotypes aside, there will surely be vodka if that’s more your thing.

At this stage, Red October’s Facebook and Instagram remain very mysterious but keep an eye out for more details and photos in the coming weeks. We’ll be sure to update you with the nitty gritty as soon as possible.
