More than 3,000 South Australian’s from every conceivable occupation will take part in the Adelaide event as part of the nation’s biggest celebration of two-wheeled, human-powered transport.

Daniel Bennett, Program Manager City Design and Transport at Adelaide City Council says that Ride2Work Day has come a long way since it was a Melbourne-only event in 1994 with just 615 riders taking part.

“This year, in Adelaide alone, we have 3,000 official registrations and across Australia we are expecting in excess of 150,000 participants, making it the biggest in the program’s history,” said Daniel.

“Last year we saw a remarkable diversity of people grab their treadlies and join the ride including bankers, politicians, surgeons, teachers and media identities.”

Anna McDonald, Senior Transport Planner for Adelaide City Council, says getting to and from work is one of the biggest stresses of our modern lives.

“Cycling is a great way to get to and from the city: you’ll beat the traffic, beat the stress, get healthy and save yourself some money,” said Anna.

“The benefits to riders and the environment are truly amazing. I’m an avid bike rider myself, so I know first-hand.

“Ride2Work Day has proven its ability to not only be a great one day event but an excellent catalyst for introducing healthy transport behaviours longer term.”
