The Adelaide Festival Kicks Off This Week!

The astounding line-up of the 2016 event has been announced, including 7 world premieres, and 20 events EXCLUSIVE TO ADELAIDE over the 18 day festival.

The festival, which is on from 26th February – 14th March, begins with a bang in an exclusive one-night-only event with world famous French maestros of light and fire, Groupe F. They will officially open the festival with À Fleur de Peau at the festival’s first ever performance staged at the Adelaide Oval. This spectacular sold over 10,000 tickets in only three days, making it the fastest selling show in the 55 year history of Adelaide’s Festival of Arts.

The stellar 2016 program features 30 theatre, music, dance and visual arts events including Adelaide Writers’ Week. The line-up includes 7 world premieres, 21 Australian premieres and 20 events exclusive to Adelaide over the 18 day festival.

In 2016 the Adelaide Festival of Arts features eight South Australian companies across theatre, music and dance, including; Australian Dance Theatre, Australian String Quartet, and the State Theatre Company of SA.

Adelaide Writers’ Week, the much-loved week of free open air readings and conversation will take place in the Pioneer Women’s Memorial Garden from Saturday 27th of February to Thursday 3rd of March.

The 2016 Writers’ Week program is a rich mix of fiction, fantasy, history, memoir, poetry, politics and political unease, hosting some of contemporary literature’s most exciting writers and thinkers. Some big names include: Andy Griffiths, Annabel Crabb, Kerry O’Brien, Paul Kelly, and Magda Szubanski.

WOMADelaide also celebrates its 20th festival in Adelaide’s Botanic Park, with performances by The Cat Empire, Angelique Kidjo, Marlon Williams, and Violent Femmes.
