Rat Pack Revue – 2012 Adelaide Fringe

Presented by:  Saldechin Tearoom, Restaurant and Martini Bar
Reviewed: Saturday 25th February

Saturday night saw the first of the 4 shows being performed at Saldechin in the city. It was a warm and sticky night in Adelaide, but that didn’t seem to dampen the spirits of those there to enjoy a night of music, food and wine.

There were about 8 tables set for 10 people each and we were seated with a fantastic group close to the stage.  It seemed that most people booked with a group of friends, but it wouldn’t matter if there were only 2 of you or 10. The bar was flat out and there was plenty of time to settle in before the ‘comedy'  opener.

A lovely 3 course dinner was enjoyed while ‘Ziggy’ the magician served up his magic tricks and some laughs. He involved the audience and managed to hold our attention for the majority of his show.  His performance was a tad too long, with a few drifting back to their own conversations before he’d finished.

The main act started shortly after with Leo Capruso and Bob Foley performing Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra's biggest hits.  These are songs we all know so well –  think You’re Nobody Till Somebody Loves You, Come Fly With Me and New York, New York.  Leo Capruso had the entire audience belting out Volare towards the end of the night, which was a laugh.

While the tribute to Sammy Davis Jr didn’t involve any singing (a big disappointment for Mr Bojangles fans!), Bob Johnson was truly entertaining and demostrated his talent as a performer.

The 5 piece band was fantastic and added to the Vegas style Cabaret feel.  As did the service from the Saldechin staff which was friendly and efficient.

All in all it was a warm and fun night.  The main show was probably a little short when compared with Ziggy’s act, but the guys came out to mingle with the audience after the show which was a nice touch.   Everything was done by 10:30 which wasn't  too late to kick on at another Fringe venue or next door at the Laneway space, also created by Saldechin. We moved next door to catch the end of a great set, with a cold beer; the perfect end to our night.
