For 25 years, RAA’s Battery Service has been helping thousands of stranded South Australians get back on the road.

RAA Senior Manager Mobility and Automotive Policy, Mark Borlace, said in the last decade alone the RAA has helped more than 500,000 members who have broken down as a result of battery troubles.

“The service started back in 1989 when RAA Patrols and the Management team realised that a high percentage of the road service jobs we were attending involved a battery replacement,” said Mr Borlace.

“Before this, if a member needed a battery replacement, the Patrol would organise a battery from a supplier if one was open, and then the member would pay for the battery and the Patrol would fit it.

“It was obvious that our members deserved a much better and more efficient battery service delivery program, so a decision was made to start the RAA Battery Service.”

The service began out of two dedicated Toyota Lite Ace vans which looked after all of the battery sales and installations.

“Shortly after this RAA introduced Mitsubishi Colts as road service vehicles, but they were only able to carry between two and six batteries on board because of their size.

“Now, we have more than 100 Patrols who operate out of vans, each carrying an average of 18 batteries on board.”

Over the years the RAA has grown their range to be able to supply batteries for not just cars and 4WDs, but marine batteries and mobility scooters as well.

Their batteries are produced to the highest standards, meet stringent quality control standards, and have a nationwide warranty.

“For our members’ peace of mind, we’ll continue to offer free delivery and installation of car, 4WD and mobility scooter batteries 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,” said Mr Borlace.
