putlandThe Adelaide Strikers have added further firepower to their fast-bowling arsenal, re-signing South Australian Gary Putland on a two-year contract.

Affectionately nicknamed ‘The Iceman’ by the South Australian cricketing public, Putland reached cult-figure status on the back of his heroics in the 2011/12 Ryobi One Day Cup final, where his final over bowling secured South Australia the title.

Putland has been limited by injury and was restricted to just one match last season. However Strikers ‘ Coach Darren Berry believes if Putland can put his past injury concerns behind him, he could have a devastating impact on the KFC T20 Big Bash League.

“I have no doubt Gary can take on the best in the league and he is looking strong at the moment,” Berry said.

“We struggled at times to really close out the tight matches last season. Gary is a great death bowler and combined with Kane Richardson and Ben Laughlin, we think we can turn this around to become one of our strong points this season.”

The Adelaide Strikers continue to build one of the strongest bowling line-ups in the competition, already announcing pacemen Kane Richardson, Ben Laughlin, Chadd Sayers, Trent Lawford and Shaun Tait as well as young leggie, Adam Zampa.

“We have added huge depth to our attack and there will be fierce competition for spots in our team – that is exactly how I like it.”

Adelaide Strikers squad: Jono Dean, Travis Head, Brad Hodge, Phil Hughes, Trent Lawford, Ben Laughlin, Tim Ludeman, Michael Neser, Gary Putland, Kane Richardson, Chadd Sayers, Craig Simmons, Shaun Tait, Adam Zampa.
