wineTONIGHT, July 7,  McLaren Vale Grape Wine and Tourism will launch a social media campaign to continue their support for the Mount Lofty Ranges World Heritage Bid.

The campaign includes a short video featuring UNESCO economic expert James Rebanks, Project Leader Stephanie Johnston, Professor Randy Stringer and a string of McLaren Vale winemakers who have thrown their support behind the bid.

CEO of McLaren Vale Grape Wine and Tourism Marc Allgrove said the campaign is about shining a spotlight on McLaren Vale and what world heritage listing would mean for people who make food and wine their livelihoods in the region.

“McLaren Vale has thrown its weight firmly behind this bid for UNESCO world heritage listing,” he says.

“For McLaren Vale to have the stamp of world heritage is like joining an elite global club, the likes of the Cinque Terra in Italy and Tokaj in Hungary, Allgrove says.

The bid’s Project Leader Stephanie Johnston will join Allgrove tonight to launch the social media campaign that asks people to share the video and take a photo of themselves showing support for the world heritage bid for McLaren Vale and the Mount Lofty Ranges. A prize of a weekend getaway for two in McLaren Vale is up for grabs.

“Social media is such a powerful tool we need to harness to spread the word and garner support for the bid,” Johnston says.

The competition begins tonight and runs until the end of August.

A preview of the video will be sent this afternoon, please do share it via twitter, facebook or instagram after 6.30pm tonight. @mclaren_vale #worldheritage #mountloftyranges @UNESCO

The launch will be held at Publisher’s Hotel 6pm.
