The Honourable Jack Snelling and Mr. Steven Marshall are among some of the state’s politicians who will present their favourite films as a part of Adelaide Cinémathèque’s second season for 2015, which launches on July 20 at The Mercury Cinema.
The Politician Presents series gives viewers a revealing look into the films that have inspired the hearts and minds of our state’s MPs, including Senator Sarah Hanson Young’s favourite flick, the Italian Oscar winning classic Life Is Beautiful and Dennis Woods’s favourite Forget Paris.
Adelaide Cinémathèque offers something special for film lovers of all kinds every Monday and Thursday night at the Mercury Cinema, from documentary to drama, comedy to classics.
Speaking from the Mercury Cinema’s bio box, programmer Glenys Rowe said “Our proposition is very simple – if you come to the Mercury Cinema I guarantee you’ll never see a dud movie. We only show excellent hand picked films by people who care and know movies inside out.”
The season’s opening film Gold Diggers of 33 will present the glamorous Hollywood gowns of acclaimed Australian costume designer Orry Kelly as part of the Gowns by Orry Kelly series.
Acclaimed director Richard Lowenstein will take part in a rare ‘off the record’ Q & A session following the screening of his Australian cult classic Dogs in Space staring INXS lead singer Michael Hutchence. This special event is a part of the This Creative Life season in September, which includes films about Nick Cave and Lou Reed and explores the concept that the creative life is both blessing and curse in equal measure.
Big Apple dreamers can live out their fantasy during the New York, New York series, which will screen four films by four great New York directors, including Mel Brooks’ classic comedy The Producers.
Adelaide’s renowned festivals will play a pivotal role in this season, including films in conjunction with OzAsia festival, the South Australia Living Artists (SALA) Festival and very special sneak peeks from the Adelaide Film Festival.
For a quarter century the Adelaide Cinémathèque has celebrated cinema in all its forms offering audiences a program of classic, cult, foreign language, experimental, documentary, independent, silent, short and premiere films had to find elsewhere.
