The purchase of two of South Australia’s most successful regional travel agencies has spearheaded a northern expansion by Phil Hoffmann Travel.

Phil HoffmannThe purchase of two of South Australia’s most successful regional travel agencies has spearheaded a northern expansion by Phil Hoffmann Travel (PHT).

The move consolidates PHT’s position as South Australia’s leisure and corporate travel leader, providing the group with an expanded regional footprint while also broadening the exclusive deals and opportunities available to local travellers.

PHT has purchased Harvey World Travel Gawler and Harvey World Travel Barossa Valley located in Nuriootpa.

Both will be rebranded and begin operating under the Phil Hoffmann Travel banner from October 1.

PHT Chief Executive Officer Peter Williams said the purchase had significant upside for local travellers – especially given that the previous owners are staying on with PHT as minority shareholders and Branch Managers under the new ownership structure.

“It’s effectively business as usual – but with added benefits. Adam Hunt in Nuriootpa and Mark Nicholson in Gawler will continue to run their respective businesses,” he said.

“It gives local travellers the best of both worlds – well-known management with local connections and specialist expertise, backed by the strength of Phil Hoffmann Travel,” he said.

Mr Williams said the addition of two new offices would enable PHT to service clients in the north from as far afield as Clare through to the Riverland.

“PHT look forward to being involved in supporting the local community through additional employment possibilities, sponsorship, destinational film nights and local travel expos,” he said.

“Business people and holidaymakers in regional South Australia have a very healthy appetite for travel and we’re focussed on being the agency of choice to meet that demand.”

“The cruise market is the fastest growing segment of the travel industry and we’ve cemented our position in this sector as Australia’s number one agency for both Ocean and River Cruising,” Mr Williams said.

“Travellers from Gawler, the Barossa Valley and surrounding areas now have greater access to these highly sought-after cruise packages, along with exclusive escorted tours and the largest range of coach tours.

Last year PHT was named Australia’s Best Retail Travel Agency (Multi Locations) at the AFTA National Travel Industry Awards for the 10th time in the 22-year history of the annual awards program.

The travel agency was once again named a finalist in the category at this year’s awards night, held on 19 July. PHT’s General Manager Michelle McNamara also took out the top gong for Australia’s Best Retail Travel Manager.

This adds to its other branches at Glenelg, Adelaide City, Norwood, Semaphore, Stirling, Hyde Park and Victor Harbor. Founded in Adelaide in 1990, Phil Hoffmann Travel is one of Australia’s most awarded travel agencies.
