Clipp, an iOS and Android app that lets people pay their bar tab or restaurant bill using their smartphone, has launched across South Australia today.

Local venues have been trialling the app in recent months and now over 30 pubs and bars including General Havelock, Bombay Bicycle Club, Seven Stars Hotel and Lockleys Hotel, are Clipp compatible.

With Clipp, customers can start, manage and pay their bar tab using just their smartphone, negating the need to leave a credit card and identification behind the bar.

From August 1, new regulations phased out signatures as methods of credit card payment confirmation. Now, without a customer’s PIN number, venues are unable to charge a credit card if a patron leaves without closing off their tab. Clipp’s proprietary technology allows venues to close any Clipp bar tab through their own existing POS software, making it the perfect time for venues to sign up.

Furthermore, Clipp’s built-in tipping function has made it easier for patrons to leave a tip at their own discretion without having to hand a card over and enter the tip amount in front of the server.

Clipp’s launch in SA today comes off the back of a tremendous year of growth including signing over 200 venues from all over Australia in less than 6 months, and appointing Todd Forest, a former Microsoft Executive as the new CEO.

Adelaide-raised Greg Taylor, the co-founder of Clipp, is excited about launching his app in his home state.

“It’s a great feeling to launch Clipp in my home state. South Australia, and particularly Adelaide, has some great bars and pubs, and it’ll be exciting to see how Clipp helps the industry flourish further.

Tom Ricketts, Managing Director of Seven Stars Hotel, a pub using Clipp, said “The Seven Stars Hotel has been using Clipp for a few months now, and we’ve been really impressed with it’s ease-of-use both for the customer and staff.

Clipp can be downloaded for free from the Google Play and Apple App Store. For information visit: www.clipp.co
