Beautiful weather, gorgeous wines and decadently delicious food was on the menu in the Eden Marquee at Langhorne Creek Vignerons’ Day.

Combine it with an exciting day of horse racing and that was the flavour of the annual race day at Strathalbyn on Sunday.

More than 2000 people in total attended the day where local horse Ustinov’s Fury, trained by Fleurieu Peninsula trainer Shane Oxlade, won the day’s feature race, the Langhorne Creek Vignerons’ Cup.

Among the available packages for the day, racegoers could choose from reserved picnic tables, a private marquee or the exclusive Eden Marquee.

Catered by former MasterChef contestant and Adelaide restaurateur Andre Ursini, with wines by well-known labels Bleasdale, Bremerton, Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy, Howlin’ Gale, Lake Breeze and The Winehouse; the Eden Marquee was the place to be.

Ursini, who runs Andre’s Cucina and Polenta Bar in Adelaide provided an indulgent menu featuring delights such as piccolo pies of Misty Glen farm Chianina beef ragu, with Kuitpo Forest mushrooms and porcini fondue; and hand crafted smoked Alexandrina gnocchetti with asparagus and garlic béchamel with broccoli pangratato.

For dessert, the indulgence continued with Zeppole Italian donuts with vanilla bean custard and crushed Blue Cottage almonds.

Washed down with an exquisite Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy Riesling, or a crisp Lake Breeze Vermentino, followed by a splash of Bremerton Tamblyn; the menu and atmosphere at Eden Marquee were the recipe for paradise.

Selections of the menu was available in the general admission area as well, so revelers could all sample Ursini’s fare, complemented by an impressive array of offerings from some of Langhorne Creek’s boutique wineries.

Marking its 21st year, the Langhorne Creek Vignerons’ Day celebrated in style and flair this year with the crowd being one of its largest.

Popular band The Happy Leonards played in the main area as people danced the afternoon away, many having backed some winners but most just enjoying the perfection of the afternoon proving there truly is nothing like a day at the races.
