Paolo Sebastian Launches Latest Collection In Paris Tomorrow

Adelaide-based label Paolo Sebastian continues its rise as an international couture house, launching the 2017/18 Autumn/Winter Couture Collection Reverie to industry and media in Paris this week. Paolo Sebastian designer Paul Vasileff said the launch at La Maison Champs Elysees, which coincides with Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, would show a different aesthetic.

Inspired by works from the Czech artist Alphonse Mucha, and the Art Nouveau movement of the early 1900s, Reverie sees Vasileff experiment with different techniques and textiles, which underpin the high level of craftsmanship that goes into creating a Paolo Sebastian gown.

“We’ve really experimented with different techniques and textiles. Silk organza is contrasted against wool cashmere and frayed chiffon in shades of rose, slate blue and muted antique gold,” Vasileff
said.

“This season we’ve moved away slightly from our traditional soft colour palette and focused on a much deeper colour palette to reflect the muted tones used in Mucha’s work.

“I’m really proud of the team and what they’ve been able to achieve with this collection. “We’ve used a lot of very different techniques, which is really important with couture, as it’s all about technique and the craftsmanship used.”

In 2016 Paolo Sebastian became the first South Australian brand to present a collection in Paris, during which Vasileff also attended an official event held by La Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture.

“After the success of last year, I feel really lucky that we are able to come back (to Paris) again. While
we’ve been working on this collection the showings have definitely been at the forefront of our
minds,” Vasileff said.

Paolo Sebastian has grown significantly in its 10 years of business; it began with Vasileff alone and
now has a team of 18 at its Adelaide-based atelier, with a client base of more than 250 globally per
year.

Paolo Sebastian’s Paris showroom is supported by the State Government via Events South Australia,
owner/manager of the Adelaide Fashion Festival presented by Mercedes-Benz Adelaide (AFF). The public release of Reverie will occur on July 5.

Paolo Sebastian has been a key part of AFF since its establishment, selling out two runway shows in both 2015 and 2016 to close the festival and will present again in 2017.

AFF creative director Chris Kontos said Vasileff – who was recognised as Young Australian of the Year for 2017 – demonstrated dedication, vision and a commitment to excellence.

“Paul works tirelessly to deliver garments that tell a story, have exquisite details and are at home among the world’s most glamorous cities and people,” he said.
